I have a Webinoly setup at my DO LTS 18.04 droplet. It has multiple WP instances.

So, I created this new site this spring and uploaded a ton of data to /uploads. Now that I need to actually populate the site db I find that I dont have the right db-user password. Bummer! I dont want to remove the site and lose all the data in /uploads.

Can I somehow reset the db-user password OR just delete the actual db and then recreate it? Or should i play around in pma (which I reallt dont like :(

Hi Gunnar,

I don't really understand what happened or how you lost your current password, but here are two things you can do:

  • Use sudo webinoly -dbpass to recover root/admin mysql user password.
  • Check the wp-config.php file of the WordPress site you want to recover the mysql user/pass, both are stored inside this file.

If these solutions doesn't work for you, please elaborate a little bit more to be able to understand what exactly is happening.

Regards.

Hello!

The weird thing is that the password in wp-config.php file is not the right one for Webinoly site.

Using -dbpass shows root/admin pwd as you write. But I need the password for this specific user/site.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here?

The user/pass inside wp-config file is correct, otherwise you will see immediately an error in your site.

  • Can you explain what are you exactly trying to do?
  • Where did you create the site?
  • Where are you trying to move your site now?

I'm just trying to understand why are you getting errors.

Hello!

OK, this is a migration project. The pwd inside wp-config is of course correct for the source site and db. But for some strange reason its no longer the right one for the target db. So I need to find out (or change) the pwd for the target db to be able to complete my migration.

Also, moving from EE on DO LTS16.04 to Webinoly on DO LTS18.04.

Hi Gunnar,

Just to be sure, remember that the source and destination DB's are both different, you can not use the same user/pass. Each one has their own user/pass.

Be sure to be using te correct user/pass for each site.

Regards.

OK - I solved it by creating a new db on the target host and then migrated/imported my Duplicator dump to that db instead of the old one whose password was lost.

Using the -mysql create command. Thank you!
