I installed WP without SSL. Now I want to add it but I am not sure if I will lock myself out.

Option one would be turn ssl-on and then change the URL's in the WP setting tab or

Option two  first change the settings and then generate the certificate

Iim thinking it would be safer to change the urls in the settings tab fist and then run the command via terminal.

Anyone who has done this before?

Just use the terminal, you will be amazed when you see everything is done automatically. Webinoly automatically updates these values in WP database. And if you want to update your content (image url's, etc) you can use the -replace-content command.
